Mr Tan Speak My Language First and Respect the Constitutional Provisions

Chinese group backs NEM’s meritocracy pledge
KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — The Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) today demanded the government uphold the principle of equality as promised in the New Economic Model (NEM).
Its president Tan Yew Sing said the umbrella body of 430 Chinese organisations has drafted a memorandum to be submitted to the government.
KLSCAH endorses these principles especially those pertaining to equal opportunity for all Malaysian, good governance and checks on corruption,” said Tan at a press conference here.
“We have also drafted a memorandum on NEM,” he added.
When it was pointed out that the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been under pressure from Malay rights group to maintain pro-Bumiputera policies, Tan said such pressure came only from a minority group.
“We feel the only way forward for this country is equal opportunity for all races, irrespective of gender, irrespective of religion. Everybody must move forward in this country as we are in a global competition,” said Tan.

“Anyone who feels that ‘no this is wrong we must do it the old method’ and ‘we should water [this] down ‘, I think that is very unfortunate. I think for the good of this nation we should voice out. We shouldn’t just let just a small group of people take away our voice,” he added.
