Kelate.....land of the Jawi Sign Boards

Took a drive back to KB on Tuesday morning.....sweet ride....not much traffic....pretty smooth until i got into Kelantan....

then came the Lori Balaks.......banyok nok mapus......

Tok Guru weh...demo pakak dok tebang perabih ko hute negeri kelate ambo ni.....

folks say if u travel during the nite....its much more.......these monstrous slow nak mampus naik bukit machines...

KB was blardy different.....

I love the one way traffic in central town...........

Food was not as good as I remembered it......

there was so many fantastic kuehs......

most are gone...as their maker dies and no one took over .......

Their replacements are nowhere near second best .....hancus......

today i sampled akok, lompat tike, pulut bakar, tepung boko, nasi kapik+samba ike and the evergreen nasi hoover...(the last one felt strange cause its actually nasi padang.....i said to myself...ape cite brader...lu bukan kat Indonesia ni)

I've not been to any other part of Malaysia....so far this trip..

But is Jawi back in fashion?

Almost every single signboard in KB will have a Jawi Script below or on top of the Romanised Bahasa Melayu text or the English text......that was a sweet departure from the usual against the constitution signboards in foreign languages that we see all over the place in KL and many other parts of the nation........

the thing is I think this has been around forever....its just that I never actually noticed the thing......

strange eh.........nama lagi orang melayu.......

mana pernah appreciate culture sendiri.....

and another good thing is that it is much cleaner than usual....about time la pakcik...

what an irony...even the MPKB motto on their site is Kota Bharu Bersih 2010

UPDATE 20 mins after
