The 150Km MRT Valuation Debate....In Search for A Benchmark

A number of folks have gone into the debate on whether 36Billion makes any sense or not.....

Some even ventured into historical project cost and tried to project kampung style the value forward as the base of their arguments........

Lets make this short and sweet....

BEIJING (AFP) – China's capital Beijing on Thursday opened five new subway lines stretching into the suburbs -- additions the city hopes will help ease its infamous traffic jams, deemed the world's worst this year.
The new routes add 108 kilometres (67 miles) to the capital's metro rail network, bringing the total to 336 kilometres, the official Xinhua news agency said.
The additions to the network -- which carries about five million passengers a day -- cost more than nine billion dollars, the report said. More here

The Nurul Izzah Sekolah Tadika Theory on Economic Growth

In my mind, a fundamental milestone for the government in the effort to achieve a high income nation status is to eradicate the obstacles to a long overdue, vibrant democracy. More democracy equals more and faster economic growth.
“We have no reason not to eradicate obstacles to democracy, after 53 years of independence,” she said. Go here

"Let's be a country that upholds a fair play," he said.

Well this is not the first time Laser Beams are being used by Spectators against players..

FIFA acts on fan with laser beam at Argentina game
JOHANNESBURG – FIFA says it asked stadium security to intervene after a spectator targeted a laser beam at the field during Argentina’s World Cup match against Nigeria.
The bright green light was aimed at players and Argentina coach Diego Maradona during Saturday’s match in Johannesburg.
FIFA says it noticed the beam immediately and alerted security staff at Ellis Park.
FIFA was concerned by fans using laser pens at qualifying matches. It fined the Greek football federation 25,000 Swiss francs ($21,800; (EURO)18,000) after beams were directed at opposing Switzerland and Israel players.

2,000 Malaysian students in Egypt in financial distress
By Dinesh Kumar
December 09, 2010
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 — Some 2,000 students in Egypt are in dire need of financial aid after failing to get assistance from Putrajaya, several groups said today.

Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia (PPIM) secretary general Dato’ Dr Ma’amor Osman said the students taking the medicine, dentistry and pharmacy course in Egyptian universities will be stranded if they do not receive any money soon.

“Some of these students are in urgent need of RM 30,000 by January 2011. If this amount cannot be channelled to them in time, they will be stranded in Egypt, unable to pay their university fees,” Ma’amor said in a press conference.

He said these students were originally financed by their families for the first year but were promised financial aid by the government from their second year onwards if they meet the requirements.

“But they didn’t receive anything. They did meet the requirements but they got nothing,” Ma’amor said.

The Blind Risk Manager

This is just amazing....

LONDON — As a trader at JPMorgan Chase in London, Ashish Goyal helps manage billions of dollars of the bank’s exposure to risks like foreign exchange fluctuations. In his spare time, he takes tango lessons, plays cricket and goes clubbing with friends. Mr. Goyal is also blind.

Watching him in the middle of the trading floor as he switches back and forth between computer screens, that is not apparent at all. But to check his e-mail, read research reports and look at presentations, Mr. Goyal uses a screen-reading software whose speed is so high that it sounds like gibberish to the untrained ear. When he needs to read graphs, which the software cannot do, Mr. Goyal goes through the data and tries to imagine the graph in his head.

On his desk, two computer screens show the usual flashing Bloomberg messages and spreadsheets of constantly changing numbers. Two keyboards are linked to headsets through which the information and figures are read out to him at rapid speeds. The same technology reads out text messages he receives on his cellphone.
