Ada Apa Dengan Malaysia?

Only in Malaysia....

We have an Islamic Party that had to have a meeting to decide on its stand as per their constitution
Source here

We also have a Finance Minister who advocated the Merger of 2 Airlines both owned by the Government after some shadowy announcement of share swaps a few days earlier...
A merger of Malaysian Airline System (MAS) and AirAsia Bhd will enable the two entities to compete in the global arena, said Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah on Saturday. The move should be viewed in the long term, including the co-ordination of services to face global competition, especially from Middle East nations. "The major oil producers are giving stiff competition because their airlines can afford to offer cheaper tickets, as compared to other airlines in the world. "We believe, based on the collective experiences of MAS and AirAsia, their strengths could then be focused on further firming up the two entities. "Through a merger, MAS, which was burdened with escalating operational costs, could be restructured," he said after visiting a Mydin supermarket project in Kampung Manjoi here Saturday. - Bernama Source here
To top it all off....we have our very own loud mouth Ministerial thug who most of the time does not know what in the world he is talking about...
The source related that the GLCs and their directors were stunned with disbelief at Nazri’s reasoning that an out-of-court settlement was the best solution to save the federal government billions of ringgit in legal claims.
Nazri misled the public when he said ‘Our total claims by the companies against Tajuddin are only half a billion ringgit. That is why we said we should sit down and talk’. His claim that Tajuddin has the bargaining power and that the GLCs were disadvantaged is nonsense. The RM13 billion against Danaharta was also plucked from thin air,” the source told The Malaysian Insider yesterday on condition of anonymity. “Tajuddin was the only one who owed money and Danaharta did not owe him anything,” the source said and quizzed: “So what is there to negotiate?” Source here
Layan beb.....

Gilebabs punye layan....

Should I bother writing a berjela2 post with data and research for all of the above (minus the Taliban party stand of course)?

Malas siout....

Perhaps you all should do some reading instead...

First take a look at this Strategic Paper of ASEAN Airlines prepared in 2005 on the impact of Low Cost Carriers go here and also look at Idris Jala's Letter on the Business Turnaround Plan of MAS in 2006 go here

After reading both I believe you would look at the recently announced Collaboration Agreement in a different light....

This was the situation in 2004-2005...

In Jala's own words to describe the situation...
MOST ROUTES ARE LOSING MONEY Our poor pricing, rising cost structure, mismatched fleet, weak operational performance, low-intensity performance culture, and social obligations all contribute to our dismal financial performance across most routes we fly. We estimate that about 60% of our routes are not profitable on a fully cost allocated basis (Exhibit I). While most airlines have a mix of profitable and developmental routes, MAS loses money on the bulk of its network. Most importantly, this means that we lack the core 'profit engine' that can help to fuel experimentation and expansion into new frontiers
That was 2006 situation........if you discount all the financial engineering activities to improve the cashflow and balance sheet.....how will MAS make money as an Airline is still unknown..and now with the "Comprehensive Collaboration" between MAS and Air Asia monkey wonders further....

Wallahwualam......

With regards to Nazri Aziz....

No need to elaborate further this idiot should be fired a long time ago.....or go quietly like he said in 2004
Nazri firm on quitting politics
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz may have just turned 50 but he has set his mind on retiring from politics. His plan to quit while still energetic is mainly to help revivify Umno, he tells JANE RITIKOS in an interview. KUALA LUMPUR:
If things go according to Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz's plans four years from now, he will be on board the legendary Orient Express train, somewhere between France and Siberia. The trip is on the top of the list of things that the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department wants to do after his targeted retirement age of 54.
“I can’t imagine myself a minister till I am very old,” he said when interviewed on Thursday, reaffirming his wish to serve his last term in the government and Umno after being active in politics for 26 years. Asked when he started feeling that he wanted to quit, Nazri, who turned 50 on May 12, said: “It’s something about turning 50. If I retire when my term ends, I will be 54 and that is just nice. There is life after politics.”
Nazri, who used to practise law between 1978 and 1995, said his decision was not because he felt sidelined by the leadership. “It is more because I have been in politics for too long and missed out on things I enjoyed doing and spending time with family,” he said. “But foremostly, I want to pave the way for younger leaders. For it (Umno) to be strong there must be rejuvenation and there comes a time when you yourself have to ensure this happens. “There are many people who have held their posts for a long time and I am one of them who are dispensable, he added. Nazri, however, stressed that he was speaking on his role and not about other leaders. He said his decision to give way to other capable people was in line with the reforms that Abdullah was implementing.
The minister started his political career as an Umno executive council member, soon after his return from Britain in 1978 where he had read law at Lincoln’s Inn. He was appointed to the Dewan Negara in 1991 and served as a senator until 1995. After winning his Parliament seat, he was made Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (1995-1999). In 1999, he was appointed Deputy Finance Minister II and later promoted to Entrepreneur Development Minister, a post he kept until the last general election in March. After the election, he was given his present post as minister in charge of parliament affairs. “When my term expires in 2009, I would have served in the Cabinet for 18 years. When the time comes and my service is no longer needed, I will go,” he said. Asked if he would continue if the leadership wanted him to, he said: “It is my wish that this be my last term. But when you want to quit you must bear in mind there are others who can make decisions for you.” Nazri also said he had asked to serve as the minister in charge of parliament affairs after the 1999 general election but was not given the job. “Pak Lah (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) has actually given me what I wanted to do,” he said. “The Prime Minister’s Department is a super ministry and there is no reason for any of the Ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department to feel sidelined for getting the job.” The father of three grown-up children said he had not spoken to his family about his decision to make this his last term “because they and supporters want me to stay in politics.” He said he wanted to retire at an age when he still felt “energetic and strong to do the things I always wanted to do.
