Conditional Port Access for Israeli Flagged Ships??????

KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — The Transport Ministry has admitted that Israeli-flagged cargo ships have been docking at Malaysian ports subject to certain conditions despite the lack of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Newspaper reports said cargo ships from Israel’s Zim Lines have been calling on local ports since 1998, in contrast to the Jewish state’s fiery welcome to the Gaza-bound humanitarian aid flotilla carrying Malaysians last week.

The conditions imposed however are that they cannot fly the Israeli flag when they enter our ports,” Transpot Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha told a press conference here today.

Kong added that other pre-conditions set were that the Israeli ships were also prohibited from unloading goods of Israeli origin and that their crew members were not allowed to alight from the vessel unless under circumstances of emergencies.

We do allow them in because there are also issues of international trade and the open economy.

But we set these conditions which must be followed,” he explained.

Kong said he had only received a preliminary report from the Port Klang’s Westport authority and was presently seeking more information on the matter.

We also need to look at other things involved and the technical details like whether these Israeli ships were really within the port area and so on.

At present, I do not have the information on how many Israeli shipping companies have permits to dock their vessels here and how many ships come here. We cannot simply make judgements based on just a picture (in the newspaper) — we do not even know when the picture was taken,” he said.

In a report yesterday, the English daily revealed that a fleet belonging to Gold Star Lines, a subsidiary of Israel’s Zim Lines, had been calling on Malaysian ports, including Port Klang.

The report also claimed that Gold Star had been incorporated in Hong Kong in 1958 in order to escape prohibitions placed on Israeli ships in Muslim countries like Malaysia that does not recognise Israel.

The Israeli Zim Lines also has other “disguised” shipping companies like Seven Stars Lines Corporation and Seth Shipping Corporation.

According to the report, Gold Star has several Malaysian agents in Sabah, Sarawak, Penang, Port Klang and Pasir Gudang and lists Port Klang’s Westport and North Terminal, Penang and Pasir Gudang as its ports of call.

Zim’s website also lists Labuan and Kuantan as its ports of call and claims that “Kelang” is one of its seven major stops.

The report continued to say that the Israeli ships disguise themselves by flying the flags of other countries where they are registered like Singapore, Cyprus and Germany. Records from a Singapore court case confirm Israel’s connection with Gold Star. Go here

Considering that these are Israeli Ships shouldn't there be PROPER MONITORING PROCEDURE done with the MALAYSIAN POLICE, NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE, ROYAL CUSTOMS, MILITARY INTELLIGENCE etc each time these fuckers even enter our waters?
