“Apa lagi Umno mahu?” asks Anwar Pakatan Rakyat said it was baffled by the Barisan Nasional government's refusal to have debates and dialogues on national issues. "We have stated our intention to hold dialogue with the government to discuss four pressing national issues namely racial tension, the economy, crime and corruption. "But we are baffled by Umno's apparent fear and reluctance to hold a dialogue with us," said opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, adding that Umno did not understand the difference between dialogue and unity talks. "Umno asks 'apa lagi Cina mahu'? So let me ask, 'apa lagi Umno mahu'?" he jested, quoting Utusan Malaysia's infamous front-page headline in the aftermath of the 13th General Election.
Anwar also said he met Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang last night, saying both agreed to renew calls for a dialogue with the government. Anwar expressed cautious optimism that the government would accept the opposition's offer to hold a dialogue. "We have fought our battles in the general election, it is time to sit down in an amicable manner and discuss the issues affecting the people and the nation. "We need to work on a policy together which will enhance the national economy and draw investment to Malaysia," Anwar said.
His comments come amid the latest findings by Universiti Malaya Centre for Democracy and Election (UMCEDEL) that majority of voters were fed-up with politics and want Pakatan Rakyat and Barisan Nasional leaders to join hands in addressing the nation's problems. Anwar, who is Parti Rakyat Keadilan de-facto leader, was in Sabah today to testify before the Royal Commission of Inquiry on illegal immigrants. He later launched the party's new liaison office at Millenium Square in Kota Kinabalu
The charismatic leader Anwar captured the attention of the 100-strong crowd with his strong remarks and jabs at the government. "When I was the Finance Minister, the price of fuel did not go up nor did the toll rates. We warned the public to expect an increase in the fuel prices and true enough, see what happened?" he said. He noted the continued debate on controversial subjects "ranging from the use of the word Allah to the economy dipping to rising cost of living". Anwar said plans to uplift the Bumiputeras have failed. "Numerous plans have been implemented to improve the fortunes of the Bumiputera community, but after so many decades, the poorest people in Malaysia are still the Malays and Bumiputera. "There is no proper governance and transparency. Corruption is a deep-rooted problem which has yet to be effectively tackled by Najib," said Anwar........ September 19, 2013. (here)
